Characters Present: Yukihyo, Vesfaah, Tal Hil, Tilij
Our adventure begins with each party member receiving an overly vague letter from their usual employer about a job. The only details in the letter are to meet at Sawtooth Prison near the Boros Legion headquarters of Sunhome.
Upon arriving at Sawtooth Prison, our adventurers are greeted by Nassius Ven, a vedalken noble and a proctor from the office of the Guildpact. Nassius recounts the escape of Krenko, a local goblin gang leader, during his transfer to a maximum security facility. Nassius explains that while being transferred, Krenko’s wagon was stopped by a particularly large group of Rakdos performers blocking the crowded streets. After the performers moved on, Krenko’s cage was empty. Nassius would like the party to find and bring Krenko to him alive. Nassius also would like to keep things quiet about Krenko’s escape because he has suspicions that one of the Guilds may be involved in the escape.
The party decides to investigate the prison wagon and talk to the guards who were escorting Krenko at the time. The wagon reveals that Krenko’s escape was rather mundane as there were no unexpected magical traces on the wagon and Tal Hil was able to detect signs of picks having been used on the cage’s lock. Speaking with the guards doesn’t reveal very much info beyond what Nassius has already told them, but Vesfaah is able to glean that the Rakdos performers were most likely using some sort of charm magic on the guards.
After discovering all they could at the prison, the party decides to head to the scene of the crime in Tin Street in Precinct Six. Tin Street is a bustling marketplace full of activity. There are many market stalls selling various goods and taverns and theaters line the streets.
The party splits up as Tilij is immediately distracted by a banana bread vendor. Vesfaah sets out to search the area for evidence of the Rakdos performers and Tal Hil searches the area for potential escape routes (of which there are many, being a high-traffic market). Yukihyo sets out to begin interviewing the nearby vendors about the escape this afternoon. Tilij ends up buying as much banana bread as he can carry – 10g worth! Vesfaah and Tal Hil find some traces of the performance group, but not much that was terribly useful. Right around the time that the others head back to Yukihyo to join in the questioning, Yukihyo found a goblin quill vendor named Noggra who actually has some useful information. Vesfaah offers up a bribe to coerce the information out of Noggra, and for the princely sum of 10g, she tells the party that Krenko does a lot of business with a local Izzet arms dealer named Falish. Falish is fairly secretive and most people don’t know the location of her lab, but Noggra scribbles down instructions on how to find it on a scrap of paper and passes it to Vesfaah.
After the conversation with Noggra, Yukihyo spots a suspicious cloaked, goblin-sized figure observing the party intently from a distance. Unfortunately, right as Yukihyo spots the goblin, Tal Hil turns to look in that direction and manages to trip over his own feet, knocking down Yukihyo in the process. After untangling themselves, Yukihyo bounces to her feet and begins dodgin her way through the crowd, nimbly flipping over people and obstacles in her way. Tilij follows after Yukihyo, his arms still full to overflowing with banana bread. He awkwardly carves a path through the crowd, knocking people aside as he plows ahead. Vesfaah attempts to help Tal Hil up from the ground, but by a strange twist of physics, ends up falling over as Tal Hil gets to his feet. Fortunately, Vesfaah’s extensive experience in acrobatic theatrics allows him to turn the fall into a pratfall and almost make the whole thing look intentional… almost.
The party all manage to gather back together as Yukihyo stops at the spot where she lost sight of the goblin. As she scans the surroundings and the rest of the group catches up, Tilij crams his mouth full of banana bread to free his hands and changes shape into a Dire Wolf. Yukihyo manages to catch a glimpse of a cloak fluttering as it disappears around the corner of a nearby ally. Yukihyo immediately sets off at full sprint after the goblin. The rest of the party follows, the Dire Wolf keeping good pace with Yukihyo. As Yukihyo closes the distance to the goblin, she pounces and easily subdues the mysterious figure, locking him into a grapple from which the little fellow has little hope of escaping. As the rest of the party catches up, the goblin begins blathering and begging for his life.
The goblin’s name is Erko and he is a scout for the Shattergang Brothers. Erko doesn’t have a whole lot of information, it becomes obvious quite quickly that he is a very low ranking member of the Shattergang Brothers and is not totally invested in the gang. He tells the party that he was instructed to keep an eye on the adventurers that have been asking questions about Krenko’s disappearance, in the hopes that the adventurers will find his location and the Shattergang Brothers will be able to swoop in and get their revenge upon Krenko (he killed their other brother). After probing Erko for more information, the party agrees that they have exhausted his stores of information and they release him.
