Characters Present: Yukihyo, Tal Hil, Tilij
The party has captured Krenko and knocked him out in order to deliver him to Nassius Ven with no more resistance. As the party evaluates their options and prepares to meet up with Nassius later in the evening, Raavi takes a closer look at the loot that he obtained from Falish’s workshop and distributes it amongst the party members. Yukihyo receives a Necklace of Adaptation, Tal Hil gets his Mizzium Apparatus, and Tilij gets a Stone of Good Luck (in the form of an earring). [TBD – There is more loot that Ravvi recovered reserved for Vesfaah and Ravvi when they return]
After distributing the loot, the party heads to the abandoned granary where Nassius requested that they meet up – away from the prying eyes of the shadowy agents he has mentioned previously.
“As the rain intensifies into a downpour, you head to the outskirts of the Tenth District. You’re directed to the old granary that Nassius picked as the rendezvous point. The wet, crumbling clay building sits out in an untended field and is overgrown with all manner of vegetation, almost completely reclaimed by the wild. Nassius steps out of the entryway into the field, holding a small purse and flanked by two heavily armed guards.”
The party greets Nassius and hands over Krenko with no conflict. Nassius pays the party the agreed-upon 100gp each and has his guards take Krenko away. The party does notice several additional people hidden around the area that look an awful lot like they might be Azorious guards, despite no visible signs of any guild affiliation. However, unprovoked, the extra guards remain in hiding until Nassius beckons them to follow him into the granary where they will presumably interrogate Krenko. The party sets off on their merry way.
The party spends the rest of the day shopping with their new found wealth and otherwise seeing to the matters of daily life. Yukihyo buys a Bag of Holding and Tilij purchases a Decanter of Endless Water. As the day winds down, the party meets up at a local tavern to celebrate their first completed task as a group.
During the festivities, the party is approached by a hooded figure who has been observing them from a shadowy corner of the tavern. He introduces himself as Advisor Swansong, a member of the Guildpact who has his own suspicions about shady happenings within the Guildpact – only Swansong suspects that Nassius Ven is involved. Swansong is impressed with how the group handled Krenko’s capture and offers to hire them to continue investigating events that Swansong thinks might be connected to the dark forces that seem to be undermining the Guildpact’s governing body.
The party agrees to work for Swansong, even though he can’t pay quite as well as Nassius did. Swansong wastes no time and tells them about a series of murders that he believes are related. Bodies have been turning up in some of the poorer communities in Precinct Five with various body parts missing. Most of the missing body parts have been internal organs, but there have also been several victims missing arms and legs. There are two crime scenes that Swansong has been able to keep cordoned off and he would like the party to investigate.
The party makes their way to a run-down tenement building where one victim has been found. The victim’s body is still present at the crime scene and the party is on the case. Through canvasing the neighbors, the party learns that there were no screams and no sounds of a struggle, the killer had been very quiet. The party also uncovers some documents for the New Birth Growth Chambers, a Simic-run research facility specializing in creature hybridization.
The second crime scene has already been cleaned up, so there is less to discover there. However, the party is able to discover that the victim worked as a janitor at the New Birth facility and his body was discovered by a coworker. The party decides to go and ask some questions of the coworker who found the body.
Unfortunately, when the party arrives at the coworkers home, they find that he has also been killed and his organs harvested. The party decides to do a stakeout at the New Birth facility.
The party spends a night watch for suspicious activity at the New Birth facility. The night is fairly uneventful, but they do note that the security detail at the facility seems to only consist of one guard making the rounds. They also observe a single doctor leaving the facility at a suspiciously late hour of the night.
The party also takes the opportunity to scout around the facility and they manage to find an unguarded, but partially hidden opening in a wall in the sewers below the facility. The party spends the rest of the night on lookout, both up above and in the sewers, but there are no additional events of note that night.
The next night, the party reconvenes in the sewers and prepares to enter the mysterious hole that leads into the lower-levels of the New Birth facility. When they enter, they find themselves in a fairly normal Simic Growth Chamber. There are chambers of various sizes embedded into the walls of the room and many of them are sealed with shadowy figures suspended within. Mysterious fluids seep from above and run into a small pool in the center of the room.
As the party enters the room, they notice that one of the chambers in the walls appears to have been broken recently. As the move to investigate, a Hybrid Shocker erupts from the pool and charges the party.
The party manages to annihilate the Hybrid Shocker with very little difficulty and prepare to continue onward.
